What is the difference between restoration and refinish?
- Refinishing is recommended when your door has dulled, but shows no complete exposure of the wood or cracking. We clean the door, remove the top layer of urethane, and replace the top coat of urethane. This process will revitalize your door and provide a shine like it was new.
- Restoration is the process described below. This is the only way to fix a door that has reached the point it has discolored, cracked, or has bare wood exposed.
Our process is a seven step process that will ensure your door will glow!
The door is removed from your home and a fake door in secured into place on day 1.
1. First we remove the door from your
home, remove the hardware, and seal off
the opening with very secure fake door.
2. The door is then moved to our shop for
completion.
3. Once the door has been scraped, we then
hand sand all the raised molding to ensure
complete removal of all stain and sealant.
The flat area of the door are sanded with an
orbital sander. After the door is completely
sanded it is sanded again with a very fine
sand paper for a smooth finish.
4. All debris is removed and the door is stained
using a Minwax product. We allow 6 hours
dry time.
6. We then seal it with four coats of Minwax
spar urethane. Each coat requires 6-12 hours
between applications.
7. The door is then returned and installed. This
is normally done 3-7 days after the door is
removed from your home.
